Susan Eloise Hinton was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her first novel, 'The Outsiders' was wrote when she was 16 ((she started
it at 15)) and was influenced to write it because of troubles between the two gangs in her school ((socials and greasers)).
Known as the 'Voice of the Youth' after the publishing, Hinton was on her way to fame.
While writing her next book 'That was then this is Now', her boyfriend and now husband, caused her to quit stressing over
a three year long writers block and made her write 2 pages a day. It all paid off and the book was published in 1971. It gave
her a bigger push on the fame wagon.
Her next book 'Rumble Fish' ((published in 1975)) was again a success and received some kind reviews. After that, she
wrote Tex, which was published in 1979 and was the last book she wrote for 9 years.
After the long wait, Nick, Hinton's son was born. Other big things were also occurring. Such as in 1983 the movie 'The
Outsiders' was created. And at its heels 2 years later 'That was then this was Now' arrived in theatres.
Three years later S.E. Hinton became the first person to receive the YASD/SLJ Author Achievement Award. In that year,
another great book 'Taming the Star Runner' was released for all eyes to see. This was a different ride in reading because
it was her first book that wasn't in 1rst person.
A book hit the shelves again for the younger generation. 'Big David, little David' was inspired by her son. This book
was the first "not based around the teen area" sort of book. Her next book, 'The Puppy Sister' was written for elementary
kids and is placed in the fantasy genre.
S.E. Hinton has shocked and touched many over the years with her famous writing skills and has been very successful. She
is very gifted and truly an awesome author.
